Tour Guide Tuesday: Nashville Oktoberfest

featuring Nashville Oktoberfest 2014

Nashville's 35th annual Oktoberfest is this weekend!  This free event is bigger than ever, stretching to a 3 day party.  Germantown, in North Nashville, is a residential subdivision established by European Immigrants in the 1850s. This beautiful re-invented, yet still authentic, neighborhood is home to the Annual Germantown Street Festival, also known as Nashville Oktoberfest, the city's annual all-things-German celebration. With an estimated 100,000 visitors slated for this year (a good jump from last year's 70,000 attendees), this fun-filled event is always on the 2nd Saturday of October and lasts three days.

The dates this year are Friday, Oct. 10 – Sunday, Oct. 12. with a kick-off party sponsored by Christie Cookie (one of my favorite Nashville originals!) 1-5pm opening day, serving Yazoo beer, live music, brats, chips and of course, loads of cookies.
This neighborhood celebration is full of German music, polka dancing, authentic German food, food trucks, local restaurants, three stages of live music and a stein hoisting contest. Also planned for the three day party is a limited release Yazoo Oktoberfest brew, craft vendors and tons more fun. The event is free, with wristbands for beer available for purchase.
